That is why we are pleased to welcome KERN & SOHN to the Tavast selection. Founded in Germany in 1844, KERN has been developing professional weighing and measuring technology for more than 180 years. Eight generations later, the family-owned company continues to combine precision engineering with modern measurement technology.
One Principle, Refined for Generations: Measure Precisely
KERN's roots in precision mechanics reach back even further than the company itself. In 1769, Jakob Sauter I and inventor Philipp Matthäus Hahn manufactured one of the first iron inclination balances. Gottlieb Kern continued this tradition, developing precision balances in Ebingen in 1844 and laying the foundation for the KERN brand.
Today, KERN & SOHN offers more than 5,000 products and operates in over 90 countries. Its expertise spans weighing technology, optical systems and professional measuring instruments, supported by an accredited calibration laboratory and internationally recognised quality standards.

For goldsmiths and jewellery professionals, density determination can provide valuable information when working with and assessing materials. The KERN EMB 200-3V scale combines precision weighing with an integrated density determination function for solids and liquids.
Its graphic-assisted control panel guides you through the process step by step: tare the balance, select the density mode, weigh the sample in air and then in liquid. The calculated density is shown directly on the display.
The KERN YDB-01 density determination set is available separately and is recommended to be ordered at the same time with the balance.
