Description
Thompson’s Opaque Medium Temperature Enamels offer exceptional quality and performance for enamelling on copper, silver, gold, low carbon steel, and metal clay (not reccommended for dinnerware use). Designed to fire within the medium temperature range of 1400–1500ºF (760–815°C), these enamels ensure vibrant, consistent colour coverage with strong adhesion. Use in a well ventilated area and/or use appropriate NIOSH certified mask. When using do not eat, drink or smoke and avoid using if pregnant.
With a coefficient of expansion between 258–360 cubic expansion, these enamels accommodate a range of base metals, making them especially versatile for jewellery making and metalworking. The opaque finish provides rich, solid colour that does not reveal the metal beneath, ideal for both decorative and functional applications.
Supplied in a 2 oz jar, the enamel comes in ~1,5-3,5mm (6/20 bead mesh) particle size, offering excellent control for both sifted and wet-pack techniques.

*Some yellows, oranges and reds and greens contain cadmium and/or selenium to achieve those colors in glass. The opaque colors are: 1335, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850 , 1860, 1870, 1880, & 1890.

Thompson Enamel does not recommend the use of these enamels for food contact surfaces. Although they are very acid resistant and do not contain lead, their final food safe properties may depend on enamel application and firing.
